The Niigata Philippine Society (NPS) commemorated two momentous occasions on the 9th of June 2024: the 3rd General Assembly of the Society and the 126th anniversary of Philippine Independence Day. The event, held in Tagami Town, Niigata Prefecture, Japan, was a resounding success, bringing together members of the Filipino community and Japanese residents in Niigata for an afternoon of celebration and fellowship.
The 3rd General Assembly served as a platform for NPS to discuss its progress and plans for the future. Members re-elected the current officers to lead the Society and charted a course for continued growth and service to the Filipino community in Niigata. The atmosphere was one of collaboration and dedication, with a shared commitment to strengthening the bonds between Filipinos in Niigata and fostering cultural exchange.
Following the General Assembly, a Philippine folk dance, "Subli", was performed by a group of ladies called the Liston Girls and showcased the rich traditions and vibrant heritage of the Philippines. Traditional dances, modern music, and Filipino food filled the venue, creating a lively atmosphere that transported attendees to the heart of the Philippines. The event also served as an opportunity for the Filipino community in Niigata to connect with each other and celebrate their shared identity.
The successful holding of the 3rd General Assembly and the 126th Philippine Independence Day celebration marks a significant milestone for Niigata Philippine Society.
